The 7Bone burger joint in St Mary’s Butts moved to the Phantom brewery at the Meadow Road industrial estate in October 2023.
Since then, the unit it used to occupy has been vacant, and is now set to be taken over by a Caribbean restaurant.
Randolph Bancroft, who runs Dolphin’s Caribbean Catering, which is currently based at The Atrium Health Club in Tilehurst, is taking over the unit in a prime location in the town centre.
Mr Bancroft has submitted a licensing application to Reading Borough Council for an array of activities there.
Giving people an idea of what they can expect, Yvette Young said: “Really we’re a Caribbean restaurant, providing Caribbean food, the ground floor will be a proper sit-down restaurant, I’m hoping we’ll get a lot of families in – when they’ve been shopping.
“Downstairs there’ll be a bar area, we could have live TV boxing events, and music down there we want to do private functions down there as well.
“We’re only doing a licence until 12am, so it’ll be open as a normal bar if we’re not doing private functions.

“We do want to have steel bands, so we’ve applied for live music just in case we have that, it might be nice to have a steel band playing sometimes, and we will have background music while people are eating.
“People can sit down and eat food, eg chicken wings, fishcakes and drinks – those are the snacks -upstairs you’ll have curry, goat rice and peas, chicken meal.”
Mr Bancroft has applied for a range of licensable activities to take place between 6am and midnight each day.
In full, he has applied to host live music, recorded music, the performance of dance, performances of anything live recorded music and dance, late-night refreshments and the supply of alcohol.
For these activities to take place Dolphin’s Caribbean Catering requires a premises licence from the council.
A statutory consultation into the application is live. You can respond to it by emailing licensing@reading.gov.uk.
The closing date for representations is Wednesday, February 19.
The premises have been occupied by a number of different businesses in the past.
It was previously occupied by La Tasca Spanish tapas and the Mangal restaurant before being taken over by 7Bone in 2017.
7Bone Burger Co has 11 locations, including the restaurant at Phantom Brewing and Bridge Street, Newbury.
