Sainsbury’s is set to open another supermarket at Brunel House in Station Road.
The ground floor of the property, which used to be occupied by the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), is in an ideal location for commuters going to and from Reading train station.
The plan for the new store has been revealed in a licensing application submitted by the supermarket giant, which already has two stores in the town centre.
It is not clear when the store will open, as the ground floor of Brunel House remains sealed off.
Sainsbury’s has applied to sell alcohol off the premises from 7am to 11pm each day of the week.
You can comment on the licensing application by typing emailing licensing@reading.gov.uk.
The deadline for responses is Tuesday, July 9.
Sainsbury’s currently has stores at both Friar Street and Broad Street in the town centre.
It also runs larger out-of-town superstores at the Savacentre in Calcot and Winnersh.
The Sainsbury’s Local at the former Maidens pub in Shinfiled Road closed in May last year and was converted into the Honey and Ghee Indian supermarket earlier this year.
The supermarket chain has been asked for more information on the opening of the store in Brunel House, which has been vacant since the closure of RBS.
