When and where to expect burger chain Shake Shack to open in the town centre

Recently, Hammerson, the owning company of The Oracle shopping centre, announced that American burger chain Shake Shack will be opening in Reading.

Shake Shack is gearing up to take over the unit previously occupied by Thomas Cook in Broad Street.

A representative for Hammerson claimed that the burger restaurant would have up to 25 full time staff.

Shake Shack specialises in beef and chicken burgers, hot dogs, fries and shakes.

People in Reading were previously able to get their hands on these items via Deliveroo.

There are hopes that the burger chain can open later this year or early in 2025.

Shake Shack has been contacted for a response.

The former Thomas Cook unit has been vacant for years, with the travel agent closing in September 2019.

Despite not being within The Oracle shopping centre itself, the unit is managed by Hammerson.

The ‘healthy fast food chain’ Leon was initially slated to open in the unit following an announcement made by The Oracle in March 2020, on the eve of the coronavirus pandemic.

However, Leon submitted plans to open in August 2021, months later.

Back in March 2020, Adam Blaker, Leon Property Director said: “We think the position of the site in Broad Street, so close to the entrance of The Oracle, is convenient for shoppers and office workers alike.”
